ARTIST FOCUS: JAMES DEXTER

2013 kicked off in fine form for Large Music with the January release of James Dexter's Only You ep.  The second track off of the ep stayed in both the Beatport and Traxsource Deep House Top 100 for months and garnered widespread critical acclaim.  We are jazzed to present Mr. Dexter's terrific follow up entitled the Rise ep.  We sat down with him recently to get the scoop on his love of DJ'ing, his London roots, and what is in store for him for the future:

scope

1) James, can you first give us a little background as to where you are from, where you grew up, and how you first discovered House Music.

I'm from London UK and grew up in South West London, where I still live now. I guess like most people I discovered house music through the natural progression of listening and DJ'ing lots of different styles of music. Originally started DJ'ing when I was around 14/15 when UK Garage was at its prime and from there gradually over the years moved over to the house side of things.

ARTIST FOCUS: LARS VEGAS

For those in the know, Lars Vegas is the alias for Lars Dales who has cemented a massive reputation for quality House grooves as one half of the dynamic duo Detroit Swindle. It was by a stroke of good fortune that Large Music landed his highly coveted debut EP just a few days into the new year of 2013. That is a story for the history books and will be told at length someday in the future. In the present, we focus on what Lars Vegas is all about..

scope

1) We noticed from your bio that you have a long history in Amsterdam as a DJ. Can you tell us how and when it all began? Was House Music always your first love or did it take some time to gravitate to House? What are some of your first influential House records that really had an impact and you?

I actually started out playing Hiphop records. Hiphop is really my first love. After a while I started getting into House, and soon my love for House overruled pretty much everything. After a while of losing myself into Hardhouse and Techno, I really felt that the older styles had a more profound effect on me. But still, records like 'The Bells' or 'Manipulated' have earned their rightful place in my collection.

MUSIC REVIEW: NATHAN G | DUPLICITY EP ON RESIDENT ADVISOR

scope

These two servings of straight-up deep house from Berlin-based Nathan G may not break much new ground, but if it's tight arrangements and musicality you're after, then the Aussie is one of the more reliable of the new school producers in this field.
